Indiatourism Mumbai organized Workshop for ‘Women Pink E-Rickshaw Drivers’ in Statue of Unity Kevadia, Gujarat

In preparations for G-20 meetings, Mumbai Regional office of Ministry of Tourism organizes Workshop for ‘Women Pink E-Rickshaw Drivers’ in Statue of Unity Kevadia, Gujarat

In preparation for the G-20 meetings in India, the Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India is holding a series of capacity building training programmes across the country for various segments of tourism industry stakeholders and service providers. This includes service providers who are engaged in other professions but come in contact with the tourist.  These persons include staff at bus/ railway stations, Rickshaw pullers, Auto/Taxi drivers, police personnel, immigration staff at airports, coolies, taxi/ coach drivers, staff at monuments, guides etc.

As part of the initiative, the Mumbai regional office of Ministry of Tourism organized a one day workshop for the Women Pink E Rickshaw Drivers’ in Statue of Unity Kevadia, Gujarat on Monday, 12th December 2022 in association with GMR Varalakshmi Foundation, Ekta Skill Development Centre – Kevadia. A total of 105 participants attended the event where they learned about basic etiquettes, grooming, tourist appropriate behaviour. The second session of the training was dedicated to make the women drivers aware of the tourist circuit of Statue of Unity and Kevadia. Kevadia is one of the venue for the G-20 meeting in June 2023.

The women drivers are primary contacts of the tourists who want to move around after reaching Kevadia. It is most important that the grassroot level service providers in Kevadia are sensitised about basic behavioural skills (soft skills) while directly dealing with the tourists. This will result in best experience for the tourists and the service providers too will know how to deal with a particularly difficult situation. This sensitisation will also be about basic alertness and safety security protocols.

The government of Gujarat has taken steps to ensure women’s empowerment. As a part of this, the tribal women in Kevadia have been trained and provided with E-Rickshaw so as to enable them to get good work and opportunities for livelihood through facilitating the local transportation needs of tourist visiting the famous, world’s tallest statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at Kevadia. The Kevadia region is now becoming an electric-only vehicle area also.

ETO motors which has supplied the E-Rickshaw’s, supported this training initiative of Ministry of Tourism by mobilizing the women E-Rickshaw Drivers for the training programme.

The training was conducted by the experienced faculty of Institute of Hotel Management, Ahmedabad and Senior Regional Level Tourist Guide.
